Let’s talk about a topic that many of us, especially the multitaskers and multifaceted business owners among us, can relate to: Keeping it Together While Juggling Different Roles.
I shared a podcast episode (which if you haven’t listened to yet, you might want to hit pause here and give it a listen at yogacareerwithgwen.com/podcast) about a peek behind the curtains of my life. I dove deep into how I navigate through the diverse roles I play every day— a mom, a yoga teacher, and a business owner, without submerging myself into chaos.
A Sneak Peek Behind My Curtain
A few weeks ago, a dear friend visited my peaceful, albeit usually bustling, home and was perplexed at the serene and organized atmosphere she walked into. Her genuine curiosity had her asking, “How do you keep it all so balanced and peaceful, Gwen?”
To the external eye, juggling the demanding roles of a mom, a yoga instructor, a business owner, and even diving into the realms of graphic designing, website development, and marketing, seems nothing short of chaotic. However, here’s a little secret: It’s not about having it all together; it’s about creating systems that uphold your peace and allow you to be your best self in every role you step into.
My Non-Negotiables
We all have our non-negotiables, don’t we? Those things we’re unwavering about? For me, practicing yoga six days a week, despite the duration, is mine. It doesn’t have to be a 90-minute session every time. It’s simply about dedicating time to feel good in my body and mind, akin to the necessity of brushing our teeth.
The Pillars of my Balancing Act: Prioritizing and Scheduling
Prioritizing for me doesn’t translate to ticking off a to-do list; it’s deciphering what genuinely requires my immediate attention, understanding what can wait, and discerning tasks that can be delegated.
Currently, content creation is my priority because even a few minutes devoted to it each day fetches me clients. However, it’s crucial to note that this wasn’t always the case, and it doesn’t have to be yours either.
Scheduling, on the other hand, isn’t merely a productivity hack. It ensures that the most significant aspects of my life – time with my son, my yoga practice, and my work, get the undivided attention they deserve, without feeling hurried or forced.
Self-Care Isn’t an Option
It’s essential. Irrespective of how packed my schedule appears, I carve out time for self-care because it’s vital to prevent burnout. Inculcating a robust balance between productivity, essential tasks, self-care, and rest is vital for sustained success and peace in our lives.
