Adding coaching to your yoga offerings can be a game changer, but many yoga teachers are held back by limiting beliefs. Today, I’ll share the five beliefs that might be stopping you and how to overcome them.

1. “Coaching is just giving advice.”

This is a common misconception. Coaching is not about giving advice; it’s about guiding students through a structured process to help them achieve their goals. It involves specific techniques and frameworks that go beyond simply giving advice. Coaching is about asking the right questions and deeply understanding your students, focusing on their needs rather than your own experiences.

2. “I need to be perfect before I can coach others.”

Many believe they need to be perfect to coach others, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Effective coaching doesn’t require perfection. It’s about being empathetic, knowledgeable, and skilled in guiding others, even while continuing to grow and learn yourself. Your journey and experience are valuable assets in coaching. Authenticity and relatability are what will connect you to your students.

3. “Coaching requires years of training and certifications.”

Another belief that holds many back is thinking that coaching requires years of training and certifications. While some training is beneficial, you don’t need years of formal education to become an effective coach. Focused courses and practical experience can equip you with the necessary skills. What’s more important is your commitment to learning and improving continuously.

4. “My students won’t be interested in coaching.”

You might think your students won’t be interested in coaching, but many are looking for more comprehensive support to achieve their goals. When they understand the benefits of coaching—such as personalized guidance, accountability, and a structured approach to achieving their objectives—they are often eager to participate. It’s all about communicating the value and showing how coaching can make a difference in their lives.

5. “I can’t charge more for coaching services.”

Lastly, there’s the belief that you can’t charge more for coaching services. Coaching provides additional value and can justify higher fees. Students are often willing to pay more for personalized, effective guidance that helps them achieve their desired outcomes. By clearly demonstrating the benefits and results your coaching can offer, you can confidently set higher prices.

Conclusion:
If you’ve been held back by any of these beliefs, it’s time to rethink them. Adding coaching to your yoga offerings can profoundly impact your students and your career.
